NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford men's basketball team went on the road for the first time this season and came home with a huge 96-83 win over the Belmont Bruins Saturday evening at the Curb Event Center.
The win was Samford's first victory at Belmont since Dec. 11, 1999. The Bulldogs improve to 2-1 with the win, while the Bruins fall to 3-1 with the loss. The loss for Belmont marked the Bruins' first non-conference home loss in 1,104 days.

- Myron Gordon led Samford with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
- Jacob Tryon had 16 points and seven rebounds.
- A.J. Staton-McCray added 15 points and six rebounds, while Christian Guess contributed 13 points and nine rebounds.
- Logan Dye added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
- As a team, Samford shot 52.5 percent overall and 46.7 percent from three-point range.
- The Samford defense held Belmont to just 34.4 percent overall and 24.4 percent from beyond the arc.
- Luke Smith led Belmont with 24 points in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samford jumped out to an early 11-3 lead with 16:03 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Dye.
- The Bulldogs extended their lead to 19-6 with 13:38 left in the first half following a three-pointer by Staton-McCray.
- After Belmont cut the lead to six points at 23-17, Samford went on a 9-0 run to push its lead to 32-17 with 8:02 left in the half on a three-pointer by Triston Chambers.
- Samford led by as many as 19 points in the first half, and the Bulldogs took a 52-39 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Samford extended its lead to 17 points at 58-41 with 18:13 left in the second half after a three-pointer by Tryon.
- Belmont answered with a 13-2 run to cut the lead to six at 60-54 with 12:05 to play after a pair of free throws by Jacobi Wood.
- The Bulldogs extended the lead back to 14 points at 70-56 with 9:20 left after another three-pointer by Tryon.
- Belmont then cut the lead back to eight at 72-64 with 7:58 left after a three-pointer by Smith.
- The Bruins closed to within three points at 76-73, but Samford answered with back-to-back three-pointers by Staton-McCray and Preston Parks to make the score 82-73 with 4:39 to play.
- Samford extended its lead back to 13 points at 96-83 with 44 seconds to play after a pair of free throws by Gordon, and the Bulldogs finished with the 96-83 victory.
