BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Kennesaw State Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the loss, Samford falls to 1-3 on the season. Kennesaw State improves to 1-1.
"Very tough, hard-fought match today by both teams," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "Kennesaw is a tough team that competes well. We were prepared for a battle today and knew beforehand that it was going to be a 5-2 or 4-3 type-match either way. The doubles point was crucial in the end, and in my mind, was a big factor in the outcome of the match. The great thing is, we get to compete again on Wednesday and have the opportunity to get better at the aspects that could of helped swing this match today in our favor."
Samford earned wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, but fell on the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles courts. Kennesaw State also earned the doubles points with wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, while Samford won the doubles match at No. 3.
Samford will host North Alabama Wednesday, Feb. 5. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
