GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball team took over sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference with a 56-42 win at UNC Greensboro Saturday afternoon at Fleming Gymnasium.
With the win, Samford improves to 11-11 overall and 6-1 in Southern Conference games. The Bulldogs won just 10 games overall and five contests in SoCon play during the entire 2018-19 season. The win was Samford's fifth-straight victory. UNCG falls to 16-6 overall and 5-2 in league play. The loss was just the second home loss for UNCG all season, and the team's first home setback in SoCon play.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first quarter was low scoring, with the score tied at 4-4 with 4:26 left in the period.
- Samford closed the quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Samford pushed its lead to 16-6 with 5:07 left in the second quarter after a layup by Armstrong.
- Samford led by as many as 11 points in the second quarter, and the Bulldogs held a 21-12 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
- With Samford leading, 23-12 early in the third quarter, UNCG went on a 12-0 run to take a 24-23 lead with 5:38 left in the period after two free throws by Twitty.
- With the score tied at 26-26, Samford closed the third quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 33-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Samford stretched its lead to 20 points at 51-31 with 1:55 to play in the game after a jumper by Charity Brown.
- The Bulldogs held on for the 56-42 win.
