Men's Hoops Drops Home Game To Furman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford men's basketball team dropped an 86-71 decision to Furman Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-19 overall and 2-11 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 21-5 overall and 11-2 in league action.

  • Brandon Austin led Samford with 21 points in the loss.
  • Jalen Dupree had 16 points and eight rebounds.
  • Robert Allen scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
  • Josh Sharkey had 12 points and eight assists.
  • Furman was led by Clay Mounce with 25 points.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samford started the game off hot, scoring the first five points of the contest.
  • Furman answered with a 13-0 run to take a 13-5 lead with 14:04 left in the first half after three made free throws by Mike Bothwell.
  • Furman pushed its lead out to 13 points at 25-12 with 8:30 left in the first half.
  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to four at 32-28 with 3:27 to go in the opening half following a three-pointer by Austin.
  • Furman took a 42-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • With Samford trailing, 50-41, Furman went on a 12-2 run to take a 62-43 lead with 12:25 left in the second half after a three-pointer by Mounce.
  • Furman led by as many as 25 points in the second half and the Paladins finished with the 86-71 win.
