ATHENS, Ga. – The Samford University softball team dropped its midweek matchup with 18th-ranked Georgia 8-0 in a five-inning affair, Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs' pair of hits came off the bats of Whitney Hinton and Grace Dabbs, as Samford played its first midweek game of the 2020 campaign.
- The Bulldogs looked to be breaking through in the top of the fifth inning with two runners on base, but were unable to push runs across, and would not get another opportunity on offense.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Samford trailed 4-0. Georgia hit a grand-slam to end the game with an 8-0 lead after five innings.

IN THE CIRCLE
- Taylor DeCelles (1-2) got the start in the circle for the Bulldogs, but gave way to Abby Swaney in the middle of first inning.
- Swaney gave up 5 runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
UP NEXTÂ
- Samford returns to action at home for the second Samford Tournament, where the Bulldogs will host Kentucky, DePaul and Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs will open the tournament against DePaul, Friday at 3Â p.m.
