CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Samford men's basketball team dropped a road Southern Conference contest at Western Carolina, 109-78 Wednesday night in the Ramsey Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 9-22 overall and 3-14 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina improves to 18-10 overall and 10-7 in league games.

• Josh Sharkey led Samford in scoring with 30 points.
• Brandon Austin scored 16 points.
• Deandre Thomas added 15 points for the Bulldogs.
• Western Carolina was led by Onno Steger 31 points.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Western Carolina jumped out to an early 14-9 lead with 13:14 to go in the first half.
• The Catamounts built their lead to 12 points at 26-14 with 7:59 to go in the opening half.
• With Samford trailing, 33-23, Western Carolina outscored Samford, 20-10 over the final 5:30 of the half to take a 53-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• In the second half, Western Carolina pushed its lead out to 71-44 with 13:54 left in the game.
• The Catamounts led by as many as 33 points in the second half and the Catamounts came away with the 109-78 win.
