BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team closed out its regular season with an 84-78 win over VMI Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford ends the regular season with a record of 10-22 overall and 4-14 in Southern Conference play, while VMI falls to 8-23 overall and 3-15 in league play. The same two teams will meet again in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament Friday at 4 p.m. (CT) in Asheville, N.C.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Samford started the game off hot, racing out to a 10-4 lead with 16:03 to go in the first half after a three-point play by Sharkey.
- VMI fought back to take a 22-18 lead with 10:45 left in the first half.
- Samford came back to take a 35-32 lead with 2:00 left in the half after a layup by Deande Thomas.
- Samford took a 35-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- In the second half, Samford built a six-point lead 53-47 with 11:36 to go after a three-point play Robinson.
- The Bulldogs led by as many as 10 points in the second half at 66-56 and 68-58.
- VMI then went on a 15-3 run to take a 73-71 with 6:00 left in the game.
- With the score tied at 76-76, Samford ended the game with an 8-2 run to close out the 84-78 win.
