BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team fell in a hard-fought Southern Conference game to Western Carolina, 78-70, Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-17 overall and 2-9 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina improves to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in league games.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Western Carolina opened up an 8-2 lead with 17:16 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Otto Steger.
- With WCU leading, 20-15, Samford went on an 8-0 run to take a 23-20 lead with 4:46 left in the first half following a layup by Robinson.
- Western Carolina fought back to take a 34-30 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
- After Samford tied the game at 37-37, Western Carolina went on an 11-0 run to take a 48-37 lead with 13:30 left in the second half after a layup by Steger.
- Western Carolina pushed its lead out to 17 points at 67-50 with 7:03 to play in the second half after a pair of free throws by Dotson.
- Samford fought back to cut the lead to seven points at 72-65, but the Bulldogs could get no closer as WCU came away with the 78-70 win.
