BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Alabama State Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 4-3 on the season. Alabama State falls to 1-2 with the loss.
"The boys did a good job today," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "I am pleased with the progress that we are making at the moment and we look to improve on that this week. It is all about trying to get better at the moment and continue to find ways to challenge ourselves day in and day out."
Samford took the doubles point with wins on doubles court No. 1, and a forfeit on court No. 3. The doubles match at No. 2 was not finished.
"We got off to quick starts today on all courts, and played the big points well which was something that we talked about this week," Esmail said. "We still have a lot to work on as a team but today we made forward progress."
In singles, Samford won each of the first five spots in straight sets. The No. 6 singles match was won by Samford by a forfeit, to close out the 7-0 victory.
Samford will play at Auburn next Friday, Feb. 14. The match is set for a 5 p.m. start from Auburn, Ala.
