BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team wrapped up its first home tournament of the season with a 9-8 walk-off victory against the Akron Zips Sunday afternoon at the Samford Softball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite an early lead, the Bulldogs trailed 8-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Â
- Ryan Brzozoski drove in two of the Bulldogs three runs in the bottom of the fifth narrowing the deficit to just one run.
- Trailing by one going into the bottom of the seventh, Timberlyn Shurbutt doubled to right field driving in the tying run.
- With the ensuing at-bat, Grace Dabbs safely reach first on a fielding error bringing Shurbutt around for the winning run.

IN THE CIRCLE
- Emily Barnett got the start for the Bulldogs, her first of the season, and gave up three runs on three hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
- Taylor DeCelles (1-0) got the win for the Bulldogs without giving up a run in her four innings of relief.
NOTABLESÂ
- DeCelles pitched back-to-back three-up, three-down innings to aid the Bulldogs comeback.
- Four Bulldogs (Maddie Dorsett, Whitney Hinton, Dabbs and Brzozoski) had a pair of hits in Samford's victory.
- Hinton went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run against the Zips.
