BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team dropped an 87-63 decision to the UNCG Spartans in Southern Conference action Thursday night in the Pete Hanna Center.

With the loss, Samford falls to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in SoCon play. UNCG improves to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

FROM THE BOX SCORE

Christian Guess led Samford with 16 points.
Richardson Maitre added nine points for the Bulldogs.
Jalen Dupree grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for Samford.
Isaiah Miller led UNCG with 18 points and eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With Samford leading, 9-6, UNCG went on an 11-0 run to take a 17-9 lead with 12:45 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by A.J. McGinnis.
Samford fought back to cut the lead to 17-14 with 10:57 left in the half after a layup by Preston Parks.
UNCG built its lead to 10 points at 26-16 with 8:22 left in the period after a three-pointer by Keyshaun Langley.
Samford closed to within two points at 27-25 with 5:27 remaining in the first half after a three-pointer by Logan Dye.
The Spartans pushed the lead back out to eight points at 33-25 with 3:13 left in the half following a three-point play by Miller.
UNCG held a 36-31 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, UNCG built a 12-point advantage at 53-41 with 16:19 to play in the half after a three-pointer by Angelo Allegri.
The Spartans extended their lead to 21 points at 66-45 with 9:19 to go in the second half after two free throws by McGinnis.
Samford cut the UNCG lead to 17 points on several occasions in the second half, but the Bulldogs could get no closer.
UNCG finished the game with the 87-63 win.
