Men’s Basketball Falls At Home To UNCG

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford men's basketball team dropped an 87-63 decision to the UNCG Spartans in Southern Conference action Thursday night in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in SoCon play. UNCG improves to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With Samford leading, 9-6, UNCG went on an 11-0 run to take a 17-9 lead with 12:45 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by A.J. McGinnis.
  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to 17-14 with 10:57 left in the half after a layup by Preston Parks.
  • UNCG built its lead to 10 points at 26-16 with 8:22 left in the period after a three-pointer by Keyshaun Langley.
  • Samford closed to within two points at 27-25 with 5:27 remaining in the first half after a three-pointer by Logan Dye.
  • The Spartans pushed the lead back out to eight points at 33-25 with 3:13 left in the half following a three-point play by Miller.
  • UNCG held a 36-31 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
  • In the second half, UNCG built a 12-point advantage at 53-41 with 16:19 to play in the half after a three-pointer by Angelo Allegri.
  • The Spartans extended their lead to 21 points at 66-45 with 9:19 to go in the second half after two free throws by McGinnis.
  • Samford cut the UNCG lead to 17 points on several occasions in the second half, but the Bulldogs could get no closer.
  • UNCG finished the game with the 87-63 win.
