BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 4-0 win over cross-town rival UAB Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
Samford improves to 2-4 with the win, while UAB falls to 0-1 with the loss.
 
"Today was a solid win for us," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "UAB is a good team and we were able to get off to good starts on all the doubles courts. Victor (Chaw) did a great job in his match, which was a tough one."
 
Samford took the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. Eladio Fabregas and Tomas Santantonio defeated Nikola Puric and Thanos Spyropoulos, 6-2, at No. 2. On the No. 3 court, Rossouw Norval and Mohammed Ali Bellalouna defeated Parker Bradbary and Vojtech Podzemny, 6-2. The match on the No. 1 doubles court was not finished.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the 4-0 win. The matches on No. 4 and No. 5 were not finished, while the No. 6 singles match was not played. At No. 1 singles, Norval defeated Roman Postolka, 6-1, 6-4. On the No. 2 singles court, Victor Chaw defeated Michal Lusovsky, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Fabregas earned a 7-6, 6-2 win over Spyropoulos.
 
Samford will host Alabama A&M and Alabama State next Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Samford Tennis Center.
