Samford Women Finish Third, Men Seventh At UAB Blazer Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's cross-country team finished third, while the men came in seventh at the UAB Blazer Classic Saturday at Veterans Park.
The women finished with 123 points in the 6K race, behind Vanderbilt (42) and New Orleans (89), and just ahead of Clemson (130).
Individually for the women, freshman Sinkenesh Parker led the way, finishing 12th out of 151 runners with a time of 21:55.56. Allison Nelson came in 22nd at 22:29.95. Harper McGowan placed 24th with a time of 23:37.68. Mary Kellison Thorne placed 32nd at 22:54.70, while Macie Pfeuffer came in 33rd at 22:58.50.
The men's squad finished with 171 points to place seventh in the 8K race. Belmont won the men's race with 57 points.
The men's team was led by Benjamin Garner, placing 14th out of 176 runners with a time of 25:17.70. Jeb Jones finished 24th with a time of 25:31.84, while Jackson Merrell placed 28th at 25:38.18 and Alec Beers came in 43rd at 26:06.24.
Samford will next compete in the Southern Conference Championships Oct. 30 in Lexington, Va.
