Women Finish Second, Men Fourth At SoCon Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Samford women's cross-country team finished second, while the men placed fourth at the Southern Conference Championship Saturday morning at the Lexington Golf and Country Club.

In the women's 5K race, Samford scored 83 points, second only to Furman's 18. ETSU followed Samford with 86 points, while UNCG had 90 points.

The Bulldog women's team was led by freshman Sinkenesh Parker, finishing 11^th with a time of 18:56.6. Parker was named second team All-SoCon and to the SoCon's All-Freshman team following the race. Allison Nelson placed 15^th at 19:08.4. Mary Kellison Thorne was Samford's third top-20 finishers, coming in 18^th with a time of 19:23.8.

Harper McGowan finished 23^rd, running the race in 19:42.8, while Macie Pfeuffer, who was also named to the SoCon's All-Freshman team, placed 26^th with a time of 19:51.2. Tatum Foreman came in 39^th at 20:43.5, and Ayers Leggett finished 46^th with a time of 21:00.8.

The men's team finished with 128 points to finish fourth in the 8K race. Furman won the men's race with 15 points, followed by ETSU (64 pts.) and Mercer (122 pts.).

The men's team was led by Benjamin Garner, who was named second team All-SoCon, placing 13^th with a time of 26:04.6. Jackson Merrell, an All-Freshman team honoree, came in 22^nd at 26:44.9. Alec Beers placed 29^th at 27:02.7, while Cole Arrington came in 33^rd with a time of 27:13.6.

Jose Penalver finished 44^th, running the race in 27:47.9. Luke Dobbins placed 50^th with a time of 28:10.1, followed by Jeb Jones at 51^st (28:13.7) and Ben Myers at 56^th (28:19.8).

Next up for the Bulldogs is the NCAA South Regional, Nov. 12^th in Huntsville, Ala.
