Bulldogs Fall 77-55 at San Francisco Despite Glover's Career Night

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Despite a career-high 24 points from Ques Glover, the Samford University Bulldogs (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season, falling 77-55 to the University of San Francisco Dons (4-0) on Monday, Nov. 15 at the Sobrato Center. Jamaree Bouyea led San Francisco with 19 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams struggled offensively in the first 5:15 of the game, as the Dons built a 6-3 lead with 14:45 to play in the first half.
  • At the 11:50 media timeout, the Bulldogs had cut the Dons' lead to five, 9-4, on a 3-pointer by Wesley Cardet, Jr., and a free throw from Jermaine Marshall. Samford's defense had held USH to just 1-of-8 from the field in the last 2:43 of the first half.
  • After a 3-pointer by Joshua Rishwain for USF, Ques Glover knocked down a pair of free throws and a jumper in the lane to cut the deficit to four, 14-10, with 10:28 to go.
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers by Josh Kunen and Jamaree Bouyea pushed the lead to 10 for the Dons, forcing a Samford timeout with 9:14 remaining in the half.  
  • While struggling to find their rhythm offensively, the Bulldogs turned up the defensive pressure to reel off seven unanswered points to make it a 20-18 game with 5:21 on the clock.
  • San Francisco came back with a 5-0 run on a 3-pointer by Rishwain and a pair of free throws from Bouyea to extend its lead back to seven, 25-18, at the 3:57 media timeout.
  • Despite 14 first half points from Glover, the Dons took a 34-26 lead into the locker room at the break. Marshall and Cardet, Jr., both had five points apiece. USF was led by Yauhen Massalski and Rishwain with eight points each.
  • The Bulldogs started the second half with a pair of 3-pointers by Cardet, Jr., and Marshall to get the Bulldogs within five, 37-32, with 18:05 to play in the game.  
  • A pair of Massalski lay-ups pushed the USF lead to 41-32 with 17:29 remaining.
  • Samford came back with a fast break lay-up from Cooper Kaifes and a 16-foot jumper by Glover to get the deficit back to five, 41-36, with 15:18 to play.
  • Out of the media timeout, USF got another 3-pointer by Rishwain and a pair of free throws from Massalski to build the lead back to 10, 46-36.
  • USF started to heat up from 3-point range after back-to-back long jumpers by Kunen and Bouyea gave the Dons their largest lead of the night, 54-42, with 12:42 to go in the contest.
  • With 9:57 to play, a jumper in the lane by Jacob Tryon and a runner from Glover put Samford back within 10, 56-46.    
  • Tape's putback off a missed jumper by Massalski, ended a 2:54 scoring drought by the Dons, and extended the lead back to 12 points, 58-46, at the 7:53 media timeout.
  • A 7-2 run by the Bulldogs made it a nine-point contest, 64-55, with 5:38 remaining.  
  • The game of runs continued for the Dons, as USF reeled-off seven straight points to extend the lead to 71-55 at the 3:16 media timeout.
  • USF scored the final six points of the night to win the game, 77-55.                 

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Samford shot 33 percent for the game after making 19-of-58 shots from the field while USF finished the night 25-of-57 for 44 percent. The Bulldogs were 6-of-24 from 3-point range with the Dons hitting on 11-of-32.   
  • The teams combined to commit 45 fouls in the game.
  • Glover, a sophomore transfer from Florida, scored a career-high 24 points after making 8-of-15 from the floor. He also finished with four rebounds and an assist.
  • Marshall closed the night with 10 points and seven rebounds.
  • The Dons placed four players in double figures led by Bouyea's 19 points. Massalski (16), Rishwain (13), and Kahlil Shabazz (11) joined Bouyea in double digits.   

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Bulldogs and Dons were meeting for the first time on the hardwood.


UP NEXT:
  • The Bulldogs travel to Corvallis, Ore., on Thursday, Nov. 18, as Samford faces the Beavers (1-1) of Oregon State University. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. Central at Gill Coliseum and the game will be broadcast on the Pac 12 Network.
