Cournoyer Passes 1,000 Career Point Mark In Samford’s 65-61 Setback At Troy

TROY, Ala. – Samford junior guard Andrea Cournoyer passed the 1,000-point mark for her college career in the Bulldog women's basketball team's 65-61 loss at Troy Wednesday evening at Trojan Arena.
 
Cournoyer now has 1,010 career points between her time at Louisiana-Lafayette and Samford.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the first quarter, Samford jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on back-to-back three-pointers by Cournoyer with 7:36 to go in the period.
  • Troy fought back to tie the score at 12-12 with 3:50 to go in the quarter after a jumper by Sharonica Hartsfield.
  • Samford took a 16-12 lead on a basket by Sanaa Redmond with 2:32 left in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs held a 19-17 lead at the end of the first period.
  • With Samford leading, 22-19, Troy scored the next four points to take its first lead of the game at 23-22 with 7:03 left in the second quarter after a layup by Tiyah Johnson.
  • With Troy leading, 26-24, Samford went on a 10-0 run to take a 34-26 lead after a jumper by Cournoyer at the 2:38 mark in the second quarter.
  • With Samford leading, 36-28, Troy closed the second quarter on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 36-35 at halftime.
  • Troy scored the first six points of the third quarter to take a 41-36 lead.
  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to two at 43-41 with 5:29 left in the third period following a jumper by Redmond.
  • With Samford trailing, 46-41, the Bulldogs scored the next six points to take a 47-46 lead after a layup by Sussy Ngulefac with 49 seconds left in the period.
  • A late basket by Troy's Felmas Koranga gave the Trojans a 48-47 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • After Samford took a 49-48 lead on a layup by Cournoyer early in the fourth period, Troy went on a 9-0 run to take a 57-49 lead with 5:55 to go after a three-pointer by Gabbi Cartagena.
  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to two points at 59-57 with 2:37 to go after a three-pointer by Shauntai Battle.
  • With Samford trailing, 61-59 late, Troy made several key free throws down the stretch to pull out the 65-61 win.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Ngulefac led Samford with a career-high 17 points.
  • Cournoyer followed with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven steals for the Bulldogs.
  • Annie Ramil led Samford in rebounding with nine.
  • Troy was led by Koranga with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

  • Samford and Troy met for the 22nd time, with Troy holding a 13-9 series lead.
  • The game wrapped up a four-game road swing for the Bulldogs.
