The Samford women's basketball team dropped an 83-47 decision at No. 19 LSU Monday evening in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • LSU scored the first nine points of the game to take a 9-0 lead with 6:21 to go in the first quarter after a jumper by Jailin Cherry.
  • Samford answered with a 7-0 run to cut the LSU lead to 9-7 with 4:26 left in the first period after a three-pointer by Kathleen Wheeler.
  • LSU closed the first quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 19-9 lead at the end of the opening period.
  • The Tigers opened the second quarter with a 13-0 run to push the LSU lead to 32-9 with 5:16 left in the second period after a jumper by Timia Ware.
  • LSU led be as many as 28 points in the second quarter and the Tigers took a 42-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford cut the LSU lead to 26 points a few times in the third quarter but could get no closer in the period.
  • LSU held a 62-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • LSU led by as many as 37 points in the fourth quarter and the Tigers finished with an 83-47 win.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Sussy Ngulefac led Samford in the game with a career-high 18 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
  • Andrea Cournoyer had 11 points and three assists in the loss.
  • Annie Ramil led the team in assists with four.
  • LSU was led by Cherry with 22 points.

  • This was the third meeting between Samford and LSU, and the Tigers own a 2-1 series lead.
