- VMI jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with 16:54 left in the first half after a three-point by Jake Stephens.
- With Samford trailing, 14-5, the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to tie the score at 14-14 with 11:30 left in the first half after a layup by Logan Dye.
- Samford took a 23-20 lead at the 5:02 mark in the first half after a jumper by Rillie.
- VMI responded with a 10-0 run to take a 30-23 lead with 2:57 to go in the first half after a pair of free throws by Trey Bonham.
- VMI took a 39-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- The Keydets stretched their lead to 46-31 with 18:37 left in the second half after a layup by Conway.
- After Samford cut the lead to 12 points at 46-34, VMI went on an 18-5 run to push its lead to 25 points at 64-39 with 12:11 left in the second half after a three-pointer by Conway.
- The Keydets led by as many as 36 points in the second half and VMI came away with the 85-56 win.
