Women’s Basketball Takes Down Wofford On The Road, 80-55

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
The Samford women's basketball team jumped out to a big early lead and never looked back on its way to an 80-55 win at Wofford Saturday afternoon at Richardson Indoor Stadium.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 12-8 overall and 9-2 in Southern Conference play. Wofford falls to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in league contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samford jumped out to a 13-0 lead with 4:42 left in the first quarter following a layup by Kiersten Nelson.
  • The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 24-8 with 51 seconds to go in the first quarter after a layup by Ramil.
  • Samford held a 24-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Samford extended its lead to 30-12 with 5:03 left in the second quarter after a free throw by Audra Leipold.
  • Samford led by as many as 21 points in the second quarter at 35-14.
  • The Bulldogs took a 39-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Wofford cut the lead to 12 points at 39-27 with 8:58 left in the third quarter after a layup by Jamari McDavid.
  • Samford then went on a 16-4 run to push its lead to 55-31 with 4:10 to go in the third quarter following a layup by Leipold.
  • Samford led, 58-40 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Samford stretched its lead back out to 21 points at 64-43 with 8:10 to go after a jumper by Cournoyer.
  • Samford led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs finished with an 80-55 win.
