Men’s Basketball Battles Furman Before Falling, 78-64

GREENVILLE, S.C. –
The Samford men's basketball team travelled to Furman Wednesday evening, falling to the Paladins, 78-64 at Timmons Arena.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 6-12 overall and 2-9 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 14-7 overall and 8-4 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samford took an early 4-3 lead with 18:19 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Rillie.
  • Furman answered with an 8-0 run to take an 11-4 lead with 16:12 left in the first half following a layup by Mike Bothwell.
  • Samford stormed back to tie the score at 20-20 with 7:53 left in the half following a free throw by Dye.
  • The Bulldogs took a 25-22 lead with 4:54 left in the first half after a layup by Stanley Henderson.
  • With Samford leading, 28-25, Furman went on an 8-0 run to take a 33-28 lead with 2:19 left in the opening period after a three-pointer by Hunter.
  • Furman took a 36-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Paladins pushed their lead out to 13 points at 45-32 with 17:36 to go in the second half following a free throw by Garrett Hien.
  • Samford cut the lead to eight points at 47-39 with 15:57 to go in the second half after a dunk by Henderson.
  • After Furman pushed its lead out to 59-45, Samford scored five-straight to cut the lead to 59-50 with 9:09 left in the half after a layup by Dye.
  • Furman then scored five straight points to push its lead to 64-50 with 7:47 to go after a jumper by Bothwell.
  • Furman led by as many as 18 points in the second half, and the Paladins came away with the 78-64 win
