BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team has now claimed back-to-back wins after a 6-1 victory over UT-Martin Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
The Bulldogs improve their overall record to 2-3, while the UT-Martin Skyhawks fall to 0-5 on the season.
 
Despite UT-Martin claiming the doubles point, Samford bounced back in singles play with wins on all six courts; five of them ending in straight sets. Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg secured her third win of the season after defeating Amelia Campbell 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Natalia De Ugarte battled against Jule Streif at court two, eventually claiming a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(7) victory, while Alexis Lopez locked in a 6-3, 6-0 win over Aziza Aubin at the No. 3 spot.
 
Cindy Oest grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Sina Albersmeier at the No. 4 spot for her first win of the season. Alex Koniaev defeated her opponent Mizuki Sakurai, 6-4, 6-4, at court five and Samantha Nanere wrapped up the singles lineup with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against her opponent, Jillian Niedzialowski, at the No. 6 spot.
 
Partners Natalia De Ugarte and Alexis Lopez were the only Bulldogs to capture a doubles win for Samford. They defeated their opponents Aziza Aubin and Jillian Niedzialowski 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
 
The Bulldogs will continue to compete at home with their next match against TCU on Friday, Feb. 12. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
