BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team opened SoCon play Wednesday afternoon with a 6-0 sweep over the Citadel at the Samford Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs now hold a winning record of 7-6, while the Citadel falls to 4-10 with the loss.
 
"We did a great job today of locking in and focusing. We played with good energy and intensity throughout the match, and the guys played from start to finish," said Head Coach Rahim Esmail.
 
Doubles competition was not played due to weather, however, Samford made the best of singles play with wins at all six courts. Rossouw Norval had a dominant performance against his opponent, Will Graham, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot. On the next court over, Victor Chaw locked in a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Zvonko Bencedic, while Tomas Santantonio also posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at court six over his opponent, Phillip Quinn.
 
Eladio Fabregas earned his eighth win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Josiah Schainblatt at the No. 3 spot. Jim Hendrix recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory at court four against Hayden Shoemake, while Mohammed Ali Bellalouna completed the Bulldog lineup with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sebastian Kamieniecki at the No. 5 spot.
 
The Bulldogs will host UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Mar. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center for their second conference match of the week.
