Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match To The Citadel

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 25-11, 17-25, 13-15) decision to The Citadel Sunday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 12-3, all in SoCon play, on the season. The Citadel improves to 9-11 overall and 7-8 in league play. Going into the final regular-season match Monday night, Samford is tied for the SoCon lead with Mercer. A Samford win, or a Mercer loss to Furman, would give Samford at least a share of the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this week's SoCon Tournament.

  • Lauren Deaton led Samford with 20 kills and 11 digs.
  • Kayla Keshock dished out 41 assists for the Bulldogs.
  • Emily Naubert had a team-high 17 assists for Samford.
  • The Citadel was led by Mellanie King and Sharlissa de Jesus with 19 kills each.

  • In the first set, Samford jumped out to an early 4-2 lead.
  • The Citadel stormed back to take an 11-9 advantage.

  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to 24-22, but The Citadel closed out the 25-22 set win.
  • In the second set, Samford used a 6-1 run to take a 10-5 lead.
  • Samford built its lead to 21-12.
  • Samford finished the second set with a 25-19 victory.
  • With the score tied at 6-6 in the third set, Samford went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-8 advantage.
  • Samford never looked back in the third set, taking the 25-11 win.
  • In the fourth set, The Citadel jumped out to a 10-3 lead.
