HOW IT HAPPENED | GM2
  • It would be a scoreless game for both teams until the bottom of the third where Western Carolina scored two runs off a single up the middle from Kailey McNeil. Bailey Huneycutt would make it home for the Catamounts who would be followed up by Lindsay Perillo as she slid into home plate for a 2-0 lead over Samford.
  • McNeil would then steal second base to put herself in a scoring position, which was eventually the case after she added another run for the Catamounts off a throwing error from the Bulldogs.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Samford would put together a strong defensive effort with a strikeout from Taylor DeCelles and a double play (1-6-3) to close out the inning. However, Bailey Huneycutt recorded Western Carolina's second home run of the day to further its score to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
  • O'Neil Roberson pinch hit for Ally Bigham to leadoff the top of the seventh and would launch the ball over the center field fence to get the Bulldogs on the board with a home run. However, the Catamounts would make a pitching change and close out the game with a 4-1 victory to capture the series win.
