BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team faced tough competition as the Bulldogs fell to Furman by a 7-0 decision on Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.

Despite the Paladins taking the doubles point, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez represented Samford at the No. 1 spot with a 6-4 win over Katarina Kozarov and Julia Adams for the Bulldogs lone win of the day. The Samford duo now holds an overall record of 10-3 this season. On the next court over, Natalia De Ugarte and Samantha Nanere would battle Madison Dillon and Maryann Rompf, but would ultimately come up short by a final decision of 7-5, while Alex Koniaev and Ally Hayduk fell to Maggie Pate and Ellie Schoppe at the No. 3 spot, 6-1.
 
The Paladins showcased their skills in singles competition as well with wins at all six spots. Alexis Lopez and Samantha Nanere would take both their matches to three sets at courts three and four, respectively. Lopez and Nanere would both drop their first sets but rally in the second to stay in their matches. However, Madison Dillon and Maryann Rompf would win their tiebreaker sets for Furman to keep a clean sheet in singles. 
 
The Samford women's tennis team will host Middle Tennessee State for its next match on Friday, Apr. 9 at 9 a.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
