BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will host Tennessee State on Wednesday, Apr. 21 for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at the Samford Softball Field. This will be followed by a weekend series against conference opponent, UNC Greensboro, with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 24 starting 12 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, Apr. 25 at 12 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
 
The Bulldogs are coming off a 7-6 win over Jacksonville State last week for an overall record of 15-20, 4-5 (SoCon) on the season. Tennessee State will enter competition with a current record of 8-27, while UNCG sits at 21-14, 6-3 (SoCon). The Spartans will face East Carolina before competing against Samford in its weekend series.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH:

• Amanda Briskin continues to be an offensive threat for Samford with a team-high .354 batting average after 35 hits in 99 at bats this season. The sophomore out of Alpharetta, Ga. has also registered 16 runs, three doubles, and five RBIs.
• Timberlyn Shurbutt has also been a force at the plate for the Bulldogs with a team-high 22 RBIs. She has captured a total of 19 runs on 35 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, and six home runs in her 35 appearances this season.
• Taylor DeCelles has kept a steady arm in the circle with 24 strikeouts in the past four games. The left-handed pitcher has thrown for 80 innings this season, facing 311 at bats and striking out 57 batters at the plate.

OPPONENT QUICK LOOKS:

• Tennessee State has yet to see a win in its past 10 games with its last victory being against Morehead State in early April. The Tigers are led offensively by Anayah Baker-Rowell with 13 runs on 36 hits, six doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 13 RBIs. In the circle, Raven Loveless has made 18 appearances this season, allowing 63 runs on 120 hits while collecting 52 strikeouts for an overall record of 2-13.
• UNC Greensboro has locked in six wins and three losses in conference play with its most recent victories coming from a 3-0 weekend sweep against Chattanooga. Makenna Matthijs is key offensive piece for the Spartans, being named this week's Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, while registering a team-high 32 runs on 40 hits and eight home runs. Morgan Scott leads UNCG in the circle with an overall record of 11-7 on the season after a total of 115.1 innings pitched and 141 strikeouts.
