BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team defeated MTSU, 4-1, Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center to close out its non-conference schedule and to grab its 11th win of the season.

The Bulldogs secured the early advantage after doubles play with a 6-3 win from Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez on court one and a 6-2 victory from Olivia Jablonski and Samantha Nanere on court three. Natalia De Ugarte and Samantha Nanere were notched at 4-4 against their opponents, Lee Barnard and Lidia Burrows, but the match would be marked as unfinished at the No. 2 spot.
 
In singles, Samford continued to put pressure on Middle Tennessee State, capturing three of the four completed matches. Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg improved her overall record to 12-6 with a three-set decision, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, over Lee Barnard at the No. 1 spot. Alexis Lopez would also battle her opponent, Zani Barnard, to three sets at the No. 3 spot, eventually claiming a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 victory for the Bulldogs. On court five, Samantha Nanere found her ninth win of the season after a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Noelle Mauro, while Olivia Jablonski and Ally Hayduk both had their matches unfinished.
 
The Samford women's tennis team will have a quick turnaround time with its next match against Wofford on Sunday, Apr. 11 at 12:00 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
