Softball Splits Doubleheader With ETSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team split a Southern Conference doubleheader with ETSU Saturday afternoon at the Samford Softball Field. Samford took the first game, 1-0, before falling in game two by a score of 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM1
  • The teams fought through the first five and a half innings in a scoreless tie.
  • Samford finally broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the sixth, Whitney Hinton scored on a ground out by Amanda Briskin for the game's lone run.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM2
  • In the second inning, ETSU's Kylie Toler hit a two-run home run to center field to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead.
  • Pitching dominated the remainder of the contest.
  • Samford's best chance to score came when Briskin singled and Jordan Moore came home, but Moore was called out for interference, ending Samford's best threat.
 
IN THE CIRCLE:
  • In the first game, Emily Barnett (8-8) had one of her best career outings. She pitched the complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out a career-high 11 batters.
  • Kelly Schmidt (7-10) took the loss for ETSU, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits.
  • Taylor DeCelles (3-11) took the loss on the second game for Samford, tossing 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
  • Taylor Boling (4-3) earned the win for ETSU, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up just four hits.
 
NOTABLES:
  • In game one, Briskin drove in the lone run, going 1-for-3 at the plate for Samford.
  • Alana Collins went 2-for-3 in game one for ETSU.
  • For Samford in game two, Hinton, Moore, O'Neil Roberson and Kathryn Jackson had one hit each.
  • For ETSU in the second contest, Toler homered and drove in two runs, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
