BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford sophomore
Bailey Dunstan is in first place, and the Bulldog women's golf team sits in fourth as a team after the first two rounds of the Hoover Invite Monday at Heatherwood Golf and Country Club (par 72, 5,839 yards).
Dunstan shot an even-par 72 in the first round, and then followed that up with a three-under-par 69 in the second round for a two-round score of 141. She leads the field of 69 players, one shot ahead of Letizia Bagnoli of Florida Atlantic.
"Bailey played an outstanding two rounds today," Samford head coach
Joe Davidson said. "She hit 18 greens in the second round and shot three-under, it was fun to watch."
As a team, Samford is in fourth place out of 11 teams with a two-round score of 598 (308-290). Florida Atlantic leads the field with a score of 586 (301-285).
"I'm really proud of the way we played in the second round," Davidson said. "Everyone played well, the team and individuals. You have to have a lot of resilience when playing golf, especially on this course. We showed that today, we'll see what happens tomorrow."
Behind Dunstan for Samford,
Allison Dusek is tied for 18
th with a two-round total of 150 (76-74).
Mary Kate Horton is tied for 21
st at 151 (77-74).
