
Samford Places 49 On Fall Academic All-SoCon Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford placed 49 student-athletes on the Fall Academic All-SoCon team, released by the Southern Conference Thursday afternoon.
To be eligible for the Academic All-SoCon team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
Samford's 49 student-athletes on the list, the second-highest total of any SoCon school, averaged a GPA of 3.60. The Samford football team led all Samford fall teams with 19 student-athletes on the team. The women's soccer team placed 14 on the squad, while volleyball had six representatives on the team. The men's cross-country and women's cross-country teams had five student-athletes on the team each.
Overall, for the conference, a league-record 425 student-athletes made the squad. The 425 total selections surpass the fall record of 356 set in 2018, while the 37 perfect 4.0 GPAs smash the fall record of 21 set in 2013 and matched in 2019.
Chattanooga led the league with 52 selections, followed closely by Samford's 49 representatives. The league's 10 women's soccer teams led the way with 120 selections, while the nine football schools were second with 112 and the nine volleyball programs were third with 58. The 10 women's cross-country teams combined for 47 selections, with the seven men's soccer squads following with 46 and the 10 men's cross-country teams totaling 42.
