Tutorial Assistance

The Academic Enhancement Program is based on individual instruction and monitoring for student-athletes who are integrated within a caring environment that is conducive to academic success.

The AEP system is designed to provide Samford's student-athletes with the necessary guidance, personal attention and academic skills/enhancement activities to help them have the most positive educational and personal experience possible. Student-athletes are integrated within a foundation of the university's general education core curriculum where the basic skills for academic achievement are emphasized.

Junior and senior-level peer tutors assist student-athletes in foundational courses of English, world languages, math, science and business. With tutorial sessions incorporating improved study techniques, the AEP has been able to put student-athletes in position to succeed and become independent learners.

The AEP environment includes a study hall format for a select group of student-athletes, including freshmen scholarship students and upperclass students who have a cumulative grade point average under a 2.5.

The AEP monitors student-athletes' academic progression via grade status sheets and written and verbal communication with Samford faculty members throughout the academic year.

The AEP strives to meet the needs, concerns and overall welfare of all Samford student-athletes. Each May, student-athletes who have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better over the last two full semesters are recognized at the annual Academic Recognition Social to honor the academic achievements and to strengthen the link between athletics and the academic community at Samford.
