BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over North Alabama Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 2-1 on the young season. North Alabama falls to 0-5 with the loss.
 
Samford won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez defeated Payton Andrews and Gabriela Cevallos, 6-2. On the No. 3 doubles court, Lindsay Song and Olivia Jablonski earned a 7-5 win over Kalais Going and Lee-Taylor Bishop.
 
Samford won five of the six singles matches to close out the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Van Rensburg defeated Andrews, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. On the No. 2 singles court, Samantha Nanere defeated Sydney Flesch, 6-2, 7-6.
 
At No. 4 singles, Sofia Zaprianov earned a 6-3, 7-6 win over Going. Ally Hayduk defeated Cevallos, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. On the No. 6 singles court, Song defeated Bishop, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Samford will next play host to UAB on Wednesday, Feb. 2. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
