Men’s Basketball Bests Badgers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jaden Campbell and Jermaine Marshall combined for 36 points to help the Samford Men's Basketball team improve to 2-0 with an 80-61 win over Spring Hill College on Thursday.
Both Campbell and Marshall logged 18 points, with Marshall also hauling in eight rebounds. Logan Dye finished just one board shy of a double-double with an 11-point, nine-rebound effort.
Cooper Kaifes and Jaron Rillie both dished out a team-best three assists, with Kaifes tallying seven points and seven rebounds.
Spring Hill College knocked down three of their first five three-point shots to claim a 9-7 lead during the first media timeout at the 15:48 mark. The Bulldogs later responded with a 12-0 run, taking a 19-11 lead after a put-back Layup from A.J. Staton-McCray.
The Badgers battled back with a 13-5 run to tie the game at 24 with 6:08 to go in the half. The two squads traded baskets the rest of the half, with a pair of free throws by Cooper Kaifes giving Samford a 33-31 advantage at the break.
Samford opened its lead up to double digits after a three from Quinn Richey put the Bulldogs up 48-38 at the 13:13 mark.
The Badgers trimmed the Bulldogs' advantage to just 59-51 with 6:27 to play, but Samford created separation by logging an 18-4 run over the next four minutes to take a 77-55 lead. From there, the Bulldogs cruised their way to the 80-61 final.
The Bulldogs finished the night shooting 38 percent (25-65) from the floor after a 42 percent (14-33) clip in half number two. Samford out-rebounded Spring Hill College, 43-35. The Bulldogs additionally registered 38 bench points, 34 points in the paint, 25 second-chance points, and 17 points off turnovers.
The Bulldogs will return to the hardwood for their third and final game of opening week on Saturday, Nov. 12 against Belhaven. Tip-off from the Pete Hanna Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
