BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team led from start to finish in earning a 78-63 win over Texas Southern Sunday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 5-0 on the season. Texas Southern falls to 1-6 with the loss.
 
"They're a good team, they are very well-coached team," Samford head coach Bucky McMillan said. "Our guys played well. We came out there, got on them early and led from start to finish."
 
Samford was led in the win by Ques Glover with 18 points and four assists. Logan Dye had 11 points, while Achor Achor followed with 10 points.
 
Texas Southern was led by Davon Barnes with 30 points. John Walker III added 15 points for the Tigers.
 
In the first half, Samford jumped out to an early 12-6 lead with 14:37 to go in the first half after a layup by Jaden Campbell. Texas Southern fought back to cut the lead to one point at 18-17 with 11:14 left in the half following a three-pointer by Barnes.
 
With Samford leading, 21-20, the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to push their lead to 31-20 with 4:44 left in the opening half after a jumper by Dye. Samford extended its lead to 15 points at 38-23 with 2:47 left in the half after a three-pointer by A.J. Staton-McCray. The Bulldogs took a 43-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
 
The Bulldogs took a 21-point lead at 53-32 with 17:11 to go following a three-pointer by Glover. With Samford leading, 58-37, Texas Southern fought back to cut the lead to 63-50 with 11:05 to go after a three-pointer by Barnes.
 
Texas Southern closed to within 10 points at 67-57 with 8:31 remaining following a three-pointer by Walker. Samford scored the next nine points to push the lead to 76-57 with 5:00 left after a layup by Glover. Samford finished with the 78-63 win.
 
Samford will play host to Valparaiso on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start in the Pete Hanna Center.
