BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball team will play three games over five days this week, hosting Valparaiso on Wednesday, Louisiana Tech on Friday, and Tennessee Southern on Sunday.
All three contests will begin at 2:00 p.m. (CST) and be streamed live on
ESPN+.
Samford is off to its first 5-0 start since the 2018-19 season. Four of the Bulldog's five wins have come at home, where they are averaging 89.3 points, 40.8 rebounds, 48 percent field-goal efficiency, and a +9-turnover margin.
The Bulldogs bested Texas Southern 78-63 in their most recent contest on Sunday, Nov. 20 from the Pete Hanna Center. Samford finished just under 50 percent (30-61) from the floor while posting a season-high 41 percent (12-29) mark from three.
Ques Glover led a trio of Bulldogs that scored in double figures with 18 points. The junior guard shot 50 percent (7-14) from the floor and 60 percent (3-5) from three while also dishing out a game-high four assists.
Logan Dye registered 11 points while
Achor Achor accounted for 10 points and three rebounds.
Bubba Parham added eight points on a team-high seven rebounds in Sunday's victory.
The Bulldogs come into the week leading the SoCon in points per game at 88.2. Samford is also allowing the fewest opponents points per game (62.2) and holding teams to just 38 percent from the field, a mark that also ranks atop the conference.
McMillan's squad leads the league in rebounding average at 43.8 RPG, a mark that ranks 15th in the country. Samford also leads the SoCon in steals per game (10), scoring margin (+26), and turnover margin (+6.40)
The Bulldogs have attempted more free throws than any other SoCon team this season, converting on a league-best 94 in 128 attempts (73%). Samford's average of 18.8 made free throws per game currently ranks 17th in the nation
Bench play has proven to be pivotal through four games. The Bulldogs are averaging 40.8 bench points per contest, a mark that leads the SoCon and ranks fifth among D-I schools.
Achor Achor and
Jaden Campbell have been the biggest contributors off the bench for the Bulldogs, with Achor averaging 13 points and five rebounds per contest and Campbell posting 11 points per game while shooting 50 percent (10-20) from three.
The Bulldogs have been able to keep fresh legs through five games, with only three players averaging more than 20 minutes per game.
Bubba Parham leads the team with an average of 23 minutes per contest while
Jermaine Marshall (22.8 MPG) and Glover (21.4 MPG) rank second and third.
Marshall and Glover both rank 13th in the SoCon in scoring average at 13.2 points per game. Campbell and
Logan Dye (10.6 PPG) additionally rank in the top 25 in the SoCon in scoring.
Marshall also currently ranks fifth in the conference in rebounding average (6.8 RPG) while Dye ranks 12th (5.8 RPG). Marshall also ranks third in free throw percentage (86%) while
A.J. Staton-McCray finds himself third in the league in steals per game (2.2).
