Bulldogs Dismantle Valparaiso, 79-49

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball team took advantage of a 52-point first half in which they shot 61 percent to best the Beacons of Valparaiso University 79-49 on Wednesday.
 
The Bulldogs improve to 6-0 with the win, marking the first 6-0 start for Samford Men's Basketball since the 1960-61 season.
 
Ques Glover and Jermaine Marshall both logged a team-high 12 points, with Marshall hauling in a team-best six rebounds. Bubba Parham posted nine points on a 3-3 shooting night on three-points shots while also grabbing four boards.
 
Logan Dye and Jaden Campbell both registered five boards, with Dye going for eight points and Campbell adding seven.
 
The Bulldogs opened the game by outscoring Valpo 11-2. After a pair of Achor Achor free throws, the Bulldogs rattled off a 16-1 run over the next five minutes to extend their lead to 29-7.
 
From there, the Bulldogs outscored the Beacons 14-7 to take a 43-14 lead that would eventually grow into a 52-22 lead at the break. Samford converted 16 of 25 shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes while knocking down five of 11 threes.
 
Valpo outscored Samford 12-6 over the first eight minutes of the second half, but a pair of free throws from Brody Boyer helped kickstart a 14-8 run that saw the Bulldogs push their lead to 74-44. Britton Johnson was able to provide a spark off the bench during the run by knocking down a pair of treys while Daniel Lobach added four points during that span.
 
In total, 13 different Bulldogs scored points in the victory while five knocked down at least one three-pointer.
 
Samford finished the night shooting 45 percent (23-51) from the floor, 38 percent (8-21) from three, and 80 percent (25-31) from the free throw line. The Bulldogs out-rebounded Valpo, 39-36.
 
The Bulldogs never trailed in the contest, while also recording 38 bench points and 26 points in the paint.
 
The Bulldogs face a quick turnaround, with a Friday, Nov. 25 home contest with Louisiana Tech up next. Tip-off from the Pete Hanna Center is slated for 2:00 p.m. (CST).
