Samford Women’s Basketball Falls In Double Overtime to UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – On the opening day of the UCF Thanksgiving Classic, the Samford Women's basketball pushed host UCF to the brink before dropping the double-overtime contest by a score of 79-74.

The loss snaps the Bulldogs' three-game winning streak as Samford moves to 3-4 on the season. UCF improves to 4-0 on the year.

Macey Lee had her best performance as a Bulldog on Saturday as the transfer from North Alabama scored 14 points and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for her first double-double in a Samford uniform. It was also the first Bulldog double-double of the year.

Not to be outdone, Sussy Ngulefac matched Lee's 14 points with 14 of her own. Ngulefac also had four rebounds in 39 minutes of play.

Joining Lee and Ngulefac in double figures, Rylie Stephens add 10 points of her own off the bench.

Andrea Cournoyer played 11 minutes and scored seven points before being ejected in the second quarter.

Samford trailed 33-26 following the Cournoyer ejection that caused a disjointed first-half performance for the Bulldogs.

To open the second half, UCF led by as many as 10 before an 11-4 run cut the Knights' lead to just one after Masyn Marchbanks made a field free throw with 2:28 left in the third.

Samford battled all the way back and took the lead on a Marchbanks three-point play in the opening moments of the fourth quarter.

Behind the trio of Lee, Stephens and Sanaa Redmond, the Samford lead grew to four before UCF made back-to-back layups with under nine seconds left in regulation to force overtime at 60-all.

In the first overtime period, UCF hit a quick three before a Lee trey and a Stephens jump put the Bulldogs up 65-63. UCF answered right back. Ngulefac played hero for Samford as the sophomore got a jumper to fall with 11 seconds left in the first overtime to tie the game at 67-67 and force a second five-minute overtime period.

UCF outscored Samford 12-7 in the second overtime to prevail 79-74 in the thriller.

Samford will play Rhode Island at 11 am CT on Sunday to conclude the UCF Thanksgiving Classic. The game will not be streamed.
