BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Despite 35 combined points from Jaden Campbell (18) and Bubba Parham (17) The Samford Men's Basketball team (6-2) fell 84-82 to the FIrehawks of Tennessee Southern on Sunday.

Both Campbell and Parham each knocked down five field goals and dished out two assists, with Parham grabbing five rebounds and Campbell four.

Achor Achor finished one point shy of a double-double, logging a nine-point, 10-rebound effort. Nathan Johnson added eight points and five rebounds.

The Bulldogs outscored the Firehawks 10-9 over the first five minutes, with UT Southern going toe-to-toe with Samford and taking a 20-19 lead at the 8:05 mark.

Samford used a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 28-20 lead, highlighted by nine unanswered points over the final two minutes of the scoring spree. The Firehawks battled back by outscoring Samford 15-7 over the final six minutes of the period to see a halftime score of 35-35.

An Achor layup at the 17:51 mark in the second half put Samford up 41-37, and from there the Bulldogs outscored the Firehawks 15-10 to go up by a score of 56-48 with 12:32 to play.

UT Southern responded with an 18-5 run over the next five minutes to climb out to a 66-61 lead. The Bulldogs fought back to tie the game at 75-all after a pair of Parham free throws, but a quick 4-0 run by UT Southern gave the Firehawks a 79-75 lead with 2:13 to go.

N. Johnson got the Bulldogs to back within one point (80-79) with a three-ball at the 1:00 minute mark, but the Firehawks answered on the ensuing possession to go up 82-79.

The Bulldogs got a pair of potential go-ahead looks off trailing 83-82 with 18 seconds left, but a contested Campbell layup and a three from Johnson would both fall off the mark.

Following a 1-2 free throw line trip on the next possession by UT Southern, a last second shot by Jaron Rillie found the bottom of the net but did not get off before the game clock hit zero.

Samford finished the night shooting 42 percent (26-61) from the floor, 31 percent (8-26) from three, and 73 percent (22-30) from the free throw line.
