Samford Women’s Basketball Stumbles At Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 75-65 midweek contest to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to conclude a three-game holiday road trip.

Samford falls to 3-6 on the season and will return home to take on Southern Miss on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. CT in the Pete Hanna Center. Jacksonville State moves to 3-2 for the year.

Masyn Marchbanks had the best game of her young Bulldog career as the freshman paced the Samford offense with 19 points off the bench. Marchbanks also had a pair of assists and a pair of steals.

Joining Marchbanks in double figures, Sussy Ngulefac had 15 points in 21 minutes of play, while Andrea Cournoyer added 13 more points with six rebounds and a trio of assists.

Kiersten Nelson led the Bulldogs on the boards with a team-high eight rebounds.

The Samford bench outscored the Jacksonville State bench by a margin of 29-4.

Ngulefac scored seven of her points in the first to help the Bulldogs only trail 22-16 after the opening 10 minutes of the play.

Samford entered halftime only down 10 after Marchbanks was fouled on a made layup by a Gamecock defender and completed the three-point play by making a free throw in the final seconds of the first half.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to six multiple times in the third fueled by eight combined points from Nelson and Ngulefac.

Despite Jacksonville State leading by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter, Marchbanks kept battling and scored eight points in the final frame including a three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining in the game to make the final 75-59.

Cournoyer added six points in the fourth to record her eighth double-figure scoring game of the season.
