LINCOLN, Neb. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 71-46 contest on Saturday night to the Nebraska Huskers.
The result pushes the Bulldogs to 4-8 on the campaign, while Nebraska moves to 8-3.
For the second-straight game,
Sussy Ngulefac paced the Samford offense with a 14-point performance. The sophomore has scored in double figures in seven games this season.
Joining Ngulefac in double figures,
Andrea Cournoyer scored 10 points and led Samford with four assists on the evening.
Carley Heidger scored nine points in 17 minutes of play coming off of the bench.
The duo of
Kathleen Wheeler and
Macey Lee each pulled down six rebounds to tie for the team lead on boards.
Cournoyer scored five of her 10 points in the first quarter that was dominated by defense that led to Samford leading 9-7 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
Macey Lee hit her one three of the game in the second frame of play as the defensive chest match continued. The Bulldogs took a 16-15 advantage into the locker room at the half.
The game changed in the second half when Nebraska came out of halftime and outscored Samford 29-17 in the third quarter. Heidger and
Emily Bowman combined for 10 of the 17 Bulldog points in the period.
Ngulefac scored her final eight points in the fourth and final quarter as Nebraska pulled away for a 71-46 final.
Samford has a full week off before closing out the three-game road trip with the Bulldogs' final Power Five opponent of the regular season in Auburn on Dec. 18.
