AUBURN, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team fell to Auburn by a score of 91-37 on Sunday afternoon.

With the defeat, Samford drops to 4-9 on the year. Auburn improves to 9-2 for the 2022-23 campaign.

Coming off the bench, Carly Heidger paced the Bulldog offense with nine points on Sunday. The freshman also grabbed four rebounds.

Masyn Marchbanks scored all seven of her points in the second half, while the pair of Cydney Rivera and Mattie Hatcher each tallied five points in the contest.

Despite not scoring a point on Sunday, sophomore guard Sanaa Redmond collected a team-leading eight rebounds.

Auburn scored the first eight points of the game before Kathleen Wheeler got a layup to fall at the 6:54 mark of the first quarter for the smallest margin of the day. The Tigers led 16-6 after the opening 10 minutes of the play.

An Andrea Cournoyer fastbreak layup in the second period broke up a 14-0 Auburn run to open the quarter before the Tigers took a 47-11 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Hatcher scored all five of her points in the fourth and final quarter of play. The homestanding Tigers led by as many as 56 before taking the all-Alabama matchup by a score of 91-37.

Following the Auburn game, Samford returns to the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center for the Bulldogs' longest homestand of the season. The festivities get under on Dec. 21 as Samford plays host to Northern Colorado on Christmas Sweater Night. Tickets can be found here.
