BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2022 season with a 6-1 victory over Alabama A&M Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 1-5 on the young season. Alabama A&M falls to 0-2 with the loss.
 
Samford swept all three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Eladio Fabregas and Jim Hendrikx defeated Rodrigo Arana Rios and Vence Ntcha, 6-3. On the No. 2 doubles court, Mohammed Ali Bellalouna and Will Gray defeated Divesh Gahlot and Cheng Chang, 6-1. At No. 3 doubles, Yerrassyl Murat and Harrison Williams earned a 6-2 win over Freddie Lawrence and German Ruiz Crespo.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins on the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 courts to close out the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Hendrikx defeated Ntcha, 7-6, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Bellalouna defeated Rios, 6-2, 6-1.
 
At No. 4 singles, J.B. Pickard defeated Gahlot, 6-1, 6-2. On the No. 5 singles court, Gray earned a 7-6, 6-0 win over Lawrence. At No. 6 singles, Williams defeated Chang, 6-3, 7-5.
 
Samford will host Belmont on Sunday, Feb. 20. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
