BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Tennessee State Wednesday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 2-5 on the young season. Tennessee State falls to 1-8 with the loss.
 
Samford won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Jim Hendrikx and Eladio Fabregas defeated Daniel Perez-Caraballo and Pierre Copin, 6-3. On the No. 2 doubles court, Mohammed Ali Bellalouna and Will Gray earned a 6-3 win over Leandros Misdrachis and Maksims Kazijevs. At No. 3 doubles, Harrison Williams and Yerrassyl Murat defeated Nil Moinet and Diego Britt-Alvarez, 6-4.
 
In singles, Samford won the matches on the first four courts to secure the 5-2 win. At No. 1 singles, Hendrikx defeated Kazijevs, 6-2, 6-3. On the No. 2 singles court, Bellalouna defeated Moinet, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Fabregas defeated Copin, 6-4, 6-2. On the No. 4 court, Murat earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Misdrachis.
 
Samford will open Southern Conference play by hosting East Tennessee State on Sunday, Feb. 27. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
