BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team opened Southern Conference play with a 5-2 loss to the ETSU Bucs Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improves to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.
 
ETSU won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the match.
 
In singles, Samford claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3. On the No. 2 court, Mohammed Ali Bellalouna defeated Frazier Rengifo, 6-2, 6-3. On the No. 3 singles court, Eladio Fabregas defeated Hugo Lobo, 7-6, 6-1. ETSU won the matches at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to close out the 5-2 win.
 
Samford will next play at UNCG on Sunday, March 6. The match is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from Greensboro, N.C.
