BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team dropped a 7-5 decision to Indiana State on the final day of the Bulldog Classic Sunday afternoon at the Samford Softball Stadium.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-4 on the season. Indiana State improves to 8-5 with the win.

Mary Katherine Tedder led Samford at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, and scoring two runs. Amanda Briskin went 2-for-4 in the game. McKayla Cothran and Kolby Holcombe drove in two runs each for the Bulldogs.
 
Jordyn Partain (2-2) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three runs, just one earned, to take the loss in the circle. McKenzie Newcomb tossed 3.0 innings, allowing four unearned runs on three hits.
 
For Indiana State, Annie Tokarek hit a solo home run in a 1-for-3 performance at the plate. Kennedy Shade drove in two runs, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Lexi Benko (4-2) earned the win, tossing 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
 
Indiana State built a 3-0 lead with two runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth. Samford came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 3-2. Cothran and Gwynnie Hornibrook drove in a run each in the fourth for the Bulldogs.
 
Indiana State extended its lead to 7-2 with four unearned runs in the sixth inning. Samford answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5. Holcombe drove in two runs, and Cothran drove in one run to pull Samford to within two runs.

The Samford softball team will play a doubleheader at North Alabama on Tuesday, March 1. The games are set for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. in Florence, Ala.
