Glover Scores Career High In Loss At The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Samford sophomore guard Ques Glover scored a career-high 30 points in a 107-93 loss in Southern Conference action at The Citadel Saturday afternoon at McAlister Fieldhouse.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 14-9 overall and 4-7 in Southern Conference play. The loss ends a three-game win streak for the Bulldogs. The Citadel improves to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in league play.
 
Glover made a career-high 13 field goals on 18 attempts in the game. He also dished out five assists in the loss. Logan Dye had 13 points for Samford, followed by Jermaine Marshall and Jaden Campbell with 12 points each.
 
The Citadel was led by Hayden Brown with 35 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Roche had 29 points for The Citadel.
 
Samford jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after a layup by Marshall with 17:47 left in the first half. The Citadel answered with a 9-3 run to take a 10-9 lead with 15:59 left in the half after a layup by Brown. Samford fought back to take a 16-13 lead at the 14:57 to go in the opening half after a jumper by Glover. Samford pushed its lead to six points at 23-17 with 13:25 to go in the half after a three-pointer by Campbell.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers by The Citadel tied the game at 23-23 with 11:28 to go in the first half. The Citadel opened up a 10-point lead at 42-32 with 6:20 left in the first half following a driving layup by Brown. Samford cut the lead to five points and 43-38 with 4:58 to go in the first half after a jumper by Campbell. After a three-pointer by The Citadel pushed the lead back out to eight points, Samford went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to one at 46-45 with 2:40 left in the half after a three-pointer by Cooper Kaifes. The Citadel hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead back out to 52-45 with 1:50 to go in the half. Samford fought back to cut the lead to one at 54-53 at halftime.
 
The teams traded baskets early in the second half, with the lead changing hands seven times in the first five minutes of the half. Samford was able to build a four-point lead at 71-67 with 13:04 left after a free throw by Glover. The Citadel fought back to take a 74-72 lead with 10:24 to go on a layup by Brown.
 
The Citadel built a nine-point lead at 83-74 with 7:31 left after a layup by Brown. The Citadel stretched its lead to 16 points at 98-82 with 3:48 to go after a three-pointer by Brown. The Citadel led by as many as 18 points down the stretch and came away with the 107-93 win.
 
Samford will return home to host Wofford on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
