Glover Named Finalist For Lou Henson Award
3.29.22 | Men's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford sophomore guard Ques Glover was named a finalist for the Lou Henson Award when the 40 finalists were announced earlier this week.
Â
The Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in NCAA Division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. The winner of the award will be announced April 1 in New Orleans, the site of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
Â
Glover ranked third in the Southern Conference in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game during the 2021-22 season. He also ranked second in the league in assists, dishing out 4.4 assists per game.
Â
Glover, a transfer from Florida who was named first team All-SoCon this season, scored in double figures in 28 games during the season, including a career-high 30 points at The Citadel. He also dished out at least five assists in 14 games, including a career-high 10 assists against VMI.
Â
Samford posted a record of 21-11 overall and 10-8 in Southern Conference play this season, a remarkable turnaround after winning just six games the previous season. The overall record tied for the third most wins since moving to Division I in 1973. This was just the third time in that span that Samford has won at least 20 regular season games. The Bulldogs' 10-8 record in SoCon play marked the most wins in league play since joining the conference for the 2008-09 season, and the third-place finish in the league was the highest Samford has ever finished in the SoCon standings.
Â
Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
