OXFORD, Miss. –  On Friday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, the Samford softball team earned its ninth win of the season with a 6-0 blanking of Saint Louis before dropping a 4-0 decision to Western Kentucky in game two of the Ole Miss Classic.

GAME 1
Final: Samford 6 | Saint Louis 0

The bats were alive for Samford in game one of the Ole Miss Classic with the Bulldogs defeating Saint Louis 6-0, powered by home runs from freshman Gwynnie Hornibrook and sophomore Jordan Moore to go along with two runs batted in from senior Mary Katherine Tedder. It was also another solid performance in the circle with freshmen McKenzie Newcomb and Jordyn Partain combining for a five-hit shutout, Samford's sixth on the season.

McKenzie Newcomb collected the win in the circle, closing out her five innings pitched with four hits and five strikeouts to go with zero runs, while Jordyn Partain entered for the final two innings, allowing one walk after nine batters faced.

The Bulldogs struck early with Gwynnie Hornibrook ripping one out of left field for her first-career solo home run in the top of the second before Mary Katherine Tedder batted in freshman Sarah Squillace for a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the next inning. Samford then doubled its lead in the third after Jordan Moore made a quick trip around the bases after smacking her first Bulldog home run to plate herself and freshman McKayla Cothran.

Samford scattered two more runs across the fifth and seventh innings after Mary Katherine Tedder registered an RBI double followed by another double and two WKU wild pitches to bring her home for a 6-0 victory at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. Tedder closed out game one with three hits in four plate appearances, recording two doubles and driving in two runs.

GAME 2
Final: Western Kentucky 4 | Samford 0

Western Kentucky managed to grab a second-inning lead after Randi Drinnon singled down the right line to score Brylee Hage on third. The Hilltoppers increased their lead to 2-0 in the very next inning with TJ Webster smacking a leadoff double, eventually making it back home after Taylor Sanders registered an RBI single on a 1-1 count.

After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, Western Kentucky got right back to work in the top of the fifth with Sanders locking in her third hit on the day and stealing second prior to Jordan Ridge singling up the middle to bring her back home. One additional run would be added for the Hilltoppers in the top of the seventh to secure their 4-0 victory after WKU standout, Sanders, doubled down the left line to score Webster on second.

Sophomore transfer Jordan Walters threw the entire 7.0 innings for Samford, receiving her second loss on the season for an overall record of 2-2. Walters gave up four earned runs on 11 hits after 33 batters faced while retiring two at the plate.
