Bulldogs Defeat Appalachian State, 4-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-1 win over Appalachian State Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Samford improves to 7-5 on the season. Appalachian State falls to 1-7 with the loss.

Samford won the doubles matches on courts No. 1 and No. 2 to secure the first point of the match. The match at No. 3 doubles was not finished.

In singles, Samford won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 to secure the 4-1 win. The matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles were not finished. At No. 1 singles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg defeated Helena Jansen, 7-6, 6-3. On the No. 3 court, Alexis Lopez earned a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 win over Virginia Poggi. On the No. 6 singles court, Sofia Zaprianov defeated Brooke Gruber, 6-0, 7-6.

Samford will play at College of Charleston Thursday morning at 9 a.m. CT.
